Every day a little death,
In the parlor, in the bed,
In the curtains, in the silver,
In the buttons, in the bread.
Every day a little sting
In the heart and in the head.
Every move and every breath,
And you hardly feel a thing,
Brings a perfect little death.

I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.

Release me
Release my body
I know it's wrong
So why am I with you now
I say release me'
Cause I'm not able to
Convince myself
That I'm better off without you

The early 19th century philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, posthumously regarded as the father of existentialism, maintained that the individual is solely responsible for giving his or her own life meaning and for living that life passionately and sincerely, in spite of many existential obstacles and distractions including despair, angst, absurdity, alienation, and boredom.

Rhyme

Rhyme, that exquisite echo which in the Muse's hollow hill creates and answers its own voice; rhyme, which in the hands of the real artist becomes not merely a material element of metrical beauty, but a spiritual element of thought and passion also, waking a new mood, it may be, or stirring a fresh train of ideas, or opening by mere sweetness and suggestion of sound some golden door at which the Imagination itself has knocked in vain; rhyme which can turn man's utterance to the speech of gods; rhyme, the one chord we have added to the Greek lyre...
Oscar Wilde, Works
There is also purpose in that life which is almost barren of both creation and enjoyment and which admits of but one possibility of high moral behavior: namely, in man’s attitude to his existence, and existence restricted by external forces…. Without suffering and death human life cannot be complete.
Victor Frankl (Man’s Search for Meaning p. 106)
So that’s how we live our lives. No matter how deep and fatal the loss, no matter how important the thing that’s stolen from us - that’s snatched right out of our hands - even if we are left completely changed people with only the outer layer of skin from before, we continue to play out our lives this way, in silence. We draw ever nearer to our allotted span of time, bidding it farewell as it trails off behind. Repeating, often adroitly, the endless deeds of the everyday. Leaving behind a feeling of immeasurable emptiness.

The thing about love, the most beautiful thing of all, is that when you give love away, you get twice as much back in return. Love other people, be kind to other people, give to other people. The more you give, the more you get back.
Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so. One day, I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return.
Mary Jean Iron
The truth that many people never understand, until it is too late, is that the more that you try to avoid suffering, the more you suffer, because smaller and more insignificant things begin to torture you in proportion to your fear of being hurt.
Thomas Merton

Mind of the Observer

Experience seems to bury us under a flood of external objects... But when reflexion begins to play upon those objects they are dissipated under its influence... each object is loosed into a group of impressions - colour, odour, texture - in the mind of the observer.
Walter Pater ~ The Renaissance, Studies in Art and Poetry

To Hope

When by my solitary hearth I sit,
And hateful thoughts enwrap my soul in gloom;
When no fair dreams before my "mind's eye" flit,
And the bare heath of life presents no bloom;
Sweet Hope, ethereal balm upon me shed,
And wave thy silver pinions o'er my head!

Whene'er I wander, at the fall of night,
Where woven boughs shut out the moon's bright ray,
Should sad Despondency my musings fright,
And frown, to drive fair Cheerfulness away,
Peep with the moonbeams through the leafy roof,
And keep that fiend Despondence far aloof!

Should Disappointment, parent of Despair,
Strive for her son to seize my careless heart;
When, like a cloud, he sits upon the air,
Preparing on his spell-bound prey to dart:
Chase him away, sweet Hope, with visage bright,
And fright him as the morning frightens night!

Whene'er the fate of those I hold most dear
Tells to my fearful breast a tale of sorrow,
O bright-eyed Hope, my morbidfancy cheer;
Let me awhile thy sweetest comforts borrow:
Thy heaven-born radiance around me shed,
And wave thy silver pinions o'er my head!

Should e'er unhappy love my bosom pain,
From cruel parents, or relentless fair;
O let me think it is not quite in vain
To sigh out sonnets to the midnight air!
Sweet Hope, ethereal balm upon me shed,
And wave thy silver pinions o'er my head!

In the long vista of the years to roll,
Let me not see our country's honour fade:
O let me see our land retain her soul,
Her pride, her freedom; and not freedom's shade.
From thy bright eyes unusual brightness shed
Beneath thy pinions canopy my head!

Let me not see the patriot's high bequest,
Great Liberty! how great in plain attire!
With the base purple of a court oppress'd,
Bowing her head, and ready to expire:
But let me see thee stoop from heaven on wings
That fill the skies with silver glitterings!

And as, in sparkling majesty, a star
Gilds the bright summit of some gloomy cloud;
Brightening the half veil'd face of heaven afar:
So, when dark thoughts my boding spirit shroud,
Sweet Hope, celestial influence round me shed,
Waving thy silver pinions o'er my head!
To Hope

Make You Feel My Love

When the rain is blowing in your face,
And the whole world is on your case,
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love.

When the evening shadows and the stars appear,
And there is no one there to dry your tears,
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love.

I know you haven't made your mind up yet,
But I would never do you wrong.
I've known it from the moment that we met,
No doubt in my mind where you belong.

I'd go hungry; I'd go black and blue,
I'd go crawling down the avenue.
No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love.

The storms are raging on the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret.
Though winds of change are throwing wild and free,
You ain't seen nothing like me yet.

I could make you happy, make your dreams come true.
Nothing that I wouldn't do.
Go to the ends of the Earth for you,
To make you feel my love

More Than a Million Miles Long

You and I
We belong
Still we always bring our bullshit home
Time is passing us by
Holding onto you tight
I ain't letting go
I just want you to know

You and me together it should work
But your mind is in another universe
Your ambition is a thing I like to see
Let me know, let me know
If you can find some time for me

How can we be strong
When the road is more than a million miles long
When the song is done
Will the love be gone?
Or should we forget it
Get it
Don't sweat it
Regret it
I ain't with it
Let's quit, quit it

Is it red, is it green
Am I stuck in between
It ain't black or white
Just ain't feeling right
But it ain't what it seems
Can you say what you mean
Tell me why this always happens to me

You and me together it should work
But your mind is in another universe
Your ambition is a thing I like to see
Let me know, let me know
If you can find some time for me

How can we be strong
When the road is more than a million miles long
When the song is done
Will the love be gone?
Or should we forget it
Get it
Don't sweat it
Regret it
I ain't with it
Let's quit, quit it

Missing you lately
All of the time
All you seem to do is argue
Make up your mind
Come to my yard
Bring all the man dem
The broke ass niggaz
With all the fake gem
Communication, that's what we need
All the silence makes my heart bleed
All you wanna do sit and burn weed
No R E S P E C T
Tell me what happens to our quality time
Everytime we meet
You're bringing trouble to my mind
A good man is so hard to find
Maybe we should dead this
Come back rewind

How can we be strong
When the road is more than a million miles long
When the song is done
Will the love be gone?
Or should we forget it
Get it
Don't sweat it
Regret it
I ain't with it
Let's quit, quit it

How can we be strong
When the road is more than a million miles long
When the song is done
Will the love be gone?
Or should we forget it
Get it
Don't sweat it
Regret it
I ain't with it
Let's quit, quit it

HEART, we will forget him!

HEART, we will forget him!
You and I, to-night!
You may forget the warmth he gave,
I will forget the light.

When you have done, pray tell me,
That I my thoughts may dim;
Haste! lest while you’re lagging,
I may remember him!

Emily Dickinson (1830–86). Complete Poems. 1924.

Such Great Heights

I am thinking it's a sign that the freckles
In our eyes are mirror images and when
We kiss they're perfectly aligned
And I have to speculate that God himself
Did make us into corresponding shapes like
Puzzle pieces from the clay
True, it may seem like a stretch, but
Its thoughts like this that catch my troubled
Head when you're away when I am missing you to death
When you are out there on the road for
Several weeks of shows and when you scan
The radio, I hope this song will guide you home

They will see us waving from such great
Heights, 'come down now,' they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away,
'come down now,' but we'll stay...

I tried my best to leave this all on your
Machine but the persistent beat it sounded
Thin upon listening
That frankly will not fly. you will hear
The shrillest highs and lowest lows with
The windows down when this is guiding you home

Such Great Heights

Holly Cole - Make it go away

Make it go away or make it better
Isnt that what love is supposed to do?
Make it go away or make it better
Cause I would do either one for you

This is not the way you should see me
This is not the face I recognize
Could I lay my head down here for a moment?
Would you sing to me like Im your child?

Cause Im not angry Im not crying
Im just in over my head
You could be the angel that stayed on my shoulder
When all of the other angels left

Make it go away
Cause I am weak and
This is more than one should have to take
If you do this for me then I will promise
Ill make it go away for you someday

There are reasons with silver linings
There are lessons but I dont care
Cause I just need a hand that I can hold onto
When its darker than death out there

Oh, and Im so cold
And so far away from my home
But tonight youre
Youre where I belong
Youre everything right
When Im everything wrong

So make it go away or make it better
Isnt that what loves supposed to do?
Just make it go away or make it better
Cause I would do either one for you

Make it go away or make it better
Isnt that what loves supposed to do?
Just make it go away or make it better
Cause I would do either one for you

All that nature has prescribed must be good; and as death is natural to us, it is absurdity to fear it. Fear loses its purpose when we are sure it cannot preserve us, and we should draw resolution to meet it, from the impossibility to escape it.

ONE ART by Elizabeth Bishop

The art of losing isn't hard to master;
so many things seem filled with the intent
to be lost that their loss is no disaster,

Lose something every day. Accept the fluster
of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.

Then practice losing farther, losing faster:
places, and names, and where it was you meant
to travel. None of these will bring disaster.

I lost my mother's watch. And look! my last, or
next-to-last, of three beloved houses went.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.

I lost two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster,
some realms I owned, two rivers, a continent.
I miss them, but it wasn't a disaster.

-- Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture
I love) I shan't have lied. It's evident
the art of losing's not too hard to master
though it may look like (Write it!) a disaster.

Be mindful

Be mindful
Originally uploaded by alex van slyck
Practice mindfulness. Simply learn to live in the present, rather than thinking so much about the future or the past. When you eat, fully appreciate your food. When you’re with someone, be with them fully. When you’re walking, appreciate your surroundings, no matter where you are.

cuz you're amazing
you drive me crazy
when you gonna know

but i won't let you lie to yourself

you got it in your head
i was made for someone else
not you you you

you make all my dreams come true
tell me why
i try
to conrol what's on your mind
well you should be here by my side
(here by my side)
you shouldn't be makin' me cry

so don't go sayin'
contemplatin'
that i'm better off alone
cuz you're amazing
you drive me crazy
when you gonna know
you're too proud to let it show
well i won't let you lie to yourself

(no need to worry)
no need to worry
(im in no hurry)
i've got all the time in the world for you baby
(cuz when you're in my arms)
when you're in my arms
you're the feelin'
i'll keep on tellin' you 'til you believin'

so don't go sayin'

you drive me crazy
